Gerhard "Hempies" du Toit was a star player for the South Africa Springboks in the 80’s.  The Springboks (an African antelope) are South Africa’s rugby team, which, incidentally, won the world rugby tournament this year.  In case you don’t know, rugby is a sport for Real Men, unlike, well, soccer…since it is basically football without any pads.  In other words, a bunch of huge guys without necks beat the crap out of each other for 80 minutes, without falling down and pretending to cry in order to get penalties for the other team like they do in, well, soccer.  Du Toit grew up on a winery, and eventually left the family business to start Annandale, his own winery.
