About

Brother and sister Erik Rye (Editor-in-Chief) and Marcy Rye (Publisher) started Wine Guideline for a single purpose: to help new wine drinkers learn to enjoy, appreciate, and understand wine better so that in the end, everybody can DRINK MORE WINE!

Wine Guideline is about the process of learning to enjoy wine. We're not here to tell you what to drink, what to think, what to like, or how to sound snobby (well, there might be a few pointers on that front). We are here to help you understand and love the wine you drink, and drink the wine you love.

Everyone's palate is different, and everyone enjoys different types of wine at different times. How a person tastes wine is affected by the climate, by their age, by their experience in drinking it, the food it's eaten with, the shape and material of the glass it's in, the temperature, and many many more seemingly unrelated things. To drink and understand wine like a sommelier requires years of training with long hours sipping and sniffing and spitting. We don't expect you to drink wine like a sommelier. We expect you to drink it like yourself, and be able to enjoy the experience. In the end, drinking wine is about friends, community, and sharing. Enjoy!
